26 April 2017: Please be informed that the helpline number will change to +94720910107 effective 28 April 2017. The existing helpline number (+94112350620) is valid until 5 May 2017 only.

06 October 2016: Family members following an OFII procedure will receive a direct phone call by the Embassy within the 2 months following the spouse's request at the OFII in France.

Other family members entitled to family reunion may come directly at the Embassy every Monday from 9:30 to 12:00.

They should provide the following documents:

letter from the spouse in France,
copy of the spouse French resident card,
copy of any document mentioning an OFPRA or OFII reference.

Please note that a verification of every civil status documents will be carried out. The whole process will take 4 to 8 months. During this time, applicants are invited not to call the Embassy.

24 May 2016: Mandatory appointment to submit visa application

Please note that with effect from 1 June 2016, it will be mandatory for France, Portugal, Spain, Monaco and Czech Republic visa applicants of Sri Lanka and Maldives to obtain prior appointments for submission of visa applications at the France Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Colombo. 24 October 2015: Important Notice: New application procedures from 02 November 2015

All diplomatic and consular Schengen missions in India will introduce Visa Information System (VIS) on 02 November 2015. This System enables better data exchange between all Schengen member states. VIS eases application procedures and improves security. Since 2011 VIS is already established in most of 23 regions worldwide. By the end of 2015 all visa sections of Schengen countries worldwide will be equipped with VIS.

Please note that the French Visa Application center will be opened for the submissions/passport collections from 8:00 to 12:00 noon on 17 August 2015 due to the General Elections.

13 May 2015: Submission Times on 29 May 2015.

Please note that we will be accepting the applications from 8.00 to 11.30 on 29 May 2015.

18 November 2013: Notice to applicants : France – Czech Republic bilateral agreement on visa matters

France and the Czech Republic have recently signed a bilateral representation agreement on visa matters.

Therefore, from the 15 November 2013 onwards, the Embassy of France will locally consider visa applications submitted by applicants wishing to travel to the Czech Republic as main destination.

Concerned visa applicants can apply for a short stay Czech schengen visa at the French counter of the VFS Global centre.

19 September 2013: Notice to applicants: Biometric data collection at the VFS Global centre

The Embassy of France in Colombo has decided to entrust VFS Global with collecting, from the 25 September 2013 onwards, biometric data of visa applicants (photograph and fingerprints).

This decision reflects the constant will of the French authorities to provide the best possible reception to visa applicants while facilitating their procedure. Thus, from this date onwards, visa applicants will be able to achieve the whole visa procedure in one sole location, the VFS Global centre. Nevertheless, the Embassy of France reserves the right to call in, if necessary, visa applicants for a complementary interview at the Embassy.

Personal bio data of visa applicants, which are confidential, will be collected using a dedicated enrolment device ensuring optimum standards of protection and for the exclusive use of the Embassy of France, visa section.
